Form Marie-Elaine Riou, Festival Direction. "As dawn is timidly breaking over Kyiv, I board my Ukraine Airlines flight to Busan, South Korea, after a very intense week at KISFF. I’m on my way to catch up with the other Canadian members of Focus Canada. The Korean team at the Busan International Short Film Festival has been providing them with tremendous help to get everything ready for the 34th edition of the festival".

Since the 9th edition of the Festival, the Short Film Market has endeavoured to create unique moments for filmmakers, institutions, producers, distributors, buyers, and program schedulers from here and elsewhere to meet and interact. A source of inspiration and networking, the event is today essential for the promotion and distribution of short films.

Form Marie-Elaine Riou, Festival Direction. "It is with great enthusiasm that I’ve accepted the invitation of Kyrylo Marikutsa to take part of the festival he founded 6 years ago and take a flight to Kyiv barely a month after the end of REGARD – Saguenay International Short Film Festival."

Each year, REGARD chooses about 200 films, to offer the best programming to festival-goers. Watching short films allows the programming team to discover artists that have a solid chance to gain notoriety in the next years. The component Shoot No Matter What! already showcases those promising emerging artists, but here are some examples of new talents included in other programs, and that were at REGARD for its 21st edition.

After several hours of viewing and energetic deliberations, the juries of Festival REGARD’s 21st edition have announced the winners of the various prizes at Hôtel Chicoutimi on Sunday, March 19th. In total, 11 prizes and 3 special mentions have been awarded, for a total of over $60,000 in grants and services.

In the cinema world, women are poorly represented in the directing position. But despite that, REGARD has seen, through years, many talented women filmmakers work their way. Among the 2017 selection, eight talented women filmmakers distinguish themselves.

The festival-goers attending the South Korea Panorama, presented by Le Quotidien and Antitube, will be carried to this East Asia country, to enjoy a typically Korean experience.
