During a summer in their chosen Haute-Gaspésie, Rosie-Roch confides in us about their complex relationship with their body and the recent unfolding of their identity.

One Step Ahead follows Norwegian skier Bernt Marius as he gets back to doing what he loves: skiing big lines in the Sunnmøre Alps after losing his leg in an accident. The film captures the ups and downs of relearning the sport and working through the mental side of recovery. It’s a raw, honest look at what it takes to keep moving forward when everything changes.

Filmed in black and white, Backxwash performs on a stripped-back stage alongside a single dancer, closing a visual trilogy and setting the tone for what comes next.

In awe of the ostriches, a sparrow wants to be just like them. By hitting the gym, following make-up tutorials and paying several visits to the neck stretching studio, the little bird comes very close to achieving its goal.

Flowers shimmer along a 16 mm strip, just before or just after the flames. You can hear them lamenting, screaming, and resisting. In response to this shrillness, an explosion of light bursts from a black petal.

On the Pow-Wow trail in Quebec, Aïcha Bastien-N’Diaye dances to reconnect with herself, her lineage, and her community. Of Wendat, Guinean, and Québécois descent, she moves through ceremony and collective memory, guided by rhythm and land.

OUSHATA’ means smoke in Wendat, and is the root of oushata’ ïohtih — brown, like smoke — echoing both the dancer’s skin and the stories held in her body.

Steven Woloshen's family came from the Ukraine. All their lives, they were looking for a home. For more than 600 years, they traveled from North Africa, Spain, Poland, Belarus and by the turn of the 20th century, ended up at Odessa, saving their money for a passage to Canada. Woloshen's film is constructed as an experimental performance paralleling that journey.
