Synopsis

In painting and dance, Marie-Hélène, a respected figure on the Canadian contemporary art scene, finds an outlet for her creativity and her resilient spirit, after losing both her legs as a child. The arrival of her daughters sparks a new sense of freedom, pushing herself to let go self-censorship and to fully bloom.

    French Canadian award-winning editor and now filmmaker, Annie Leclair is an expert story teller known for her powerful films that resonate with audiences around the world.Among her noted edited projects: the series Les Accrocheurs, Gémeaux Award (2013); Suuhk Suuhk Hockey, Gémeaux finalist for the best editing (2014); Zimbelism, Top 20 Audience Favorites from the Hot Docs (2016); Revealing Marie Saint Pierre, Audience Choice & Best Documentary Award from the Forest City Film Festival (2016). Finally, Into the light with Cité Mémoire, Best Documentary Award from the ArteNon Stop Festival in Argentina (2020) and an Audience Choice Award from the Forest City Film Festival in Canada (2020).Annie’s directorial debut, the short film Grounded (Enracinée), was chosen to represent Quebec at the 1905 International Human Rights Film Festival of Hong Kong and was praised at the 8th edition of Asia Micro Films Art Festival of Yunnan, China. Among the 2021 SIMA AWARDS Finalists (Los Angeles), Grounded recently got awarded the Jury’s Special Mention at the International Festival of Films on Art of Montréal and screened at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival of New Zealand.Passionate and dedicated to filmmaking, Annie has been a documentary film editor for 15 years and is a former board member of the Montreal Women in Film and Television Association (FCTMN). She is currently working on her first feature-length documentary.
