Shoot No Matter What and Short & Queer
Host: Christophe Chamberland, Spira

To close out the Shoot No Matter What and Short & Queer programs in style, we’re bringing together filmmakers whose artistic gestures, convictions, and the very soul of their films will set the tone for a heartfelt evening. Joining us are Romy Boutin St-Pierre (Sara & Fatima), Gabrielle Bergeron-Leduc (On tire pas sur une plante pour qu'elle pousse), mathilde capone (Widnet il-Bahar) and Daphnée Côté-Hallé (Greluche). This generous and vibrant encounter creates a space where cinema becomes one of sharing, love, and resistance.

Recently premiered in Rotterdam, Sara & Fatima challenges prejudice with humour and nuance, offering a vibrant and authentic portrait of Muslim and Maghrebi women through the perspectives of its three co-directors. On tire pas sur une plante pour qu’elle pousse explores the relationship to the body and non-binary identity in a warm, intimate atmosphere that invites openness and vulnerability. Set in Malta, Widnet il-Ba?ar weaves together family memory and political reflection, questioning colonial legacies embedded in the land. Finally, Greluche paints the portrait of a woman who defies convention, liberated and unapologetic, through the art of clowning.

Originally from Saguenay, Romy is quickly emerging as a filmmaker to watch within Quebec’s cinematic landscape. With her first film, Gabrielle brings together her studies in gender and sexuality with her experience as a cinematographer and is currently involved in Mathilde’s upcoming project. A queer and decolonial filmmaker, mathilde drew attention in 2023 with Éviction. Actress and screenwriter Daphnée continues to build a prolific career, co-writing the series Symphonie pathétique and Deux filles aux toilettes, in which she also performs.
