This competition has more than proven its worth. It brings together filmmakers driven by an urgent desire to create, often without financial support, and reminds us that bold, singular cinema can emerge from limited resources. Here, constraints become creative engines. This year, locations take on a central role, gradually transforming into true narrative forces. In Sara & Fatima, the desert becomes the unexpected setting for an encounter between two women who are polar opposites, ultimately united in vulnerability. In L’Okapi, the forest hosts the intimate exchanges of a couple on the brink of separation. Widnet il-Ba?ar takes us to Malta, an island steeped in memory and deeply tied to Mathilde’s family history, which they are discovering for the first time. In FAN, humour and the confined space of a small apartment give rise to the playful anthropomorphism of a ventilator. In Savoir ce qu’on pense, the setting nearly fades away, making room for the raw intensity of an evening among friends. Ouarda ouarda: yet another flower film, inspired by the sounds emitted by stressed plants, unfolds as a space of its own — a minimalist landscape for reflection. In Une nuit debout, an insomniac’s bedroom becomes a gateway to her inner world. Finally, Greluche closes the program with a luminous portrait of a free and unconventional woman whose childlike spirit is nurtured by her magical forest. A truly DIY competition, Shoot No Matter What celebrates films that turn limitations into fuel for creativity, and imagination into a driving force.
